COVID-19 Policy for Flight Training
Dear Student:
Sierra Academy provides training for international students and United States students and is
committed to everyone’s health and safety first and foremost during this difficult time. In the
highest interest of safety, we are implementing temporary changes while the Covid-19 virus runs
its course.
PRIOR TO PILOT TRAINING OR CONDUCTING A DISCOVERY FLIGHT
Prior to pilot training, including a discovery flight, the student will need to provide
documentation of receiving the two COVID-19 vaccine shots for either Pfizer or Moderna or one
shot for Johnson & Johnson.
CORONAVIRUS GUIDANCE FROM THE FAA
After careful review of available data regarding safety profiles, the FAA Office of Aerospace
Medicine (AAM) adopted the following policy as both safe and operationally responsive to this
unique situation:
Holders of FAA-issued Airman Medical Certificates or Medical Clearances may receive the
Pfizer-Bio NTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines; however, a 48-hour
no fly/no safety related duty interval must be observed after each dose.
EXCEPTION TO TAKING THE COVID-19 VACCINATION
The only exception to not take the vaccine would be for the student to have taken a Covid test
with a negative reading 48 hours before the training/discovery flight and no Covid-19 symptoms.
